The Past Within: Chapter 1 Walkthrough
The Past Within is a Co-Op Point and Click adventure set in the mysterious world of Rusty Lake. Both of the players will get to choose one of the sides between Past and Future. After selecting the side, both of the players will get to play the chosen side of the story. After selecting a side, the game will ask you if you trust the person who chose the other side, and then both of them will choose a picture between a bug and a butterfly. After choosing the same symbol, the first chapter of the game will begin.
In this guide, we’ll be covering the first chapter of the Past Within game.
We’ll denote both of the players with the side that they chose. One player will be Past and the other player will be Future.
As the chapter begins, Future we’ll be looking at a machine similar to the computer. On the other hand, Past will have a letter on its left side and a box with 9 small buttons on it on the right side. Future needs to click on the Red Switch on the computer to turn the machine on and the screen of the computer will turn on. As the screen turns on it’ll say the “CUBICAL DEVICE 01BF” The Cubical Device holds a memory that contains the room of the person in the past. Now, make sure that you are in a contact with the other player because you need to communicate throughout the whole game to help each other and end the game.
Press the Enter key below the screen of the Cubical Device to go to the next screen and it’ll tell Future that you’re about to make a connection with the person in the past. Past will need to open the letter and read the date on the letter and tell it to Future. Enter the year 1926 in the machine to proceed forward. Now tell Past the flashing blocks on the screen so he can open the box. Confirm on the device that Past has opened the box and he’ll find the matchbox and then it’ll teleport to Future. Open the Matchstick to get the Switch.
Now Future needs to insert the switch on the left side of the device and turn it on. Click and drag it to the left side and insert the switch in P-17 and turn it on. Four pictures will show on the left side and Future will have to discuss it with Past to set the pictures in order. As a Past, go to the right side two times to see the four paintings on the wall. The correct pattern of the pictures is the following.
- Top Left – Crow Painting
- Top Right – Butterfly Painting
- Bottom Left – Tree Painting
- Bottom Right – Albert & Rose Painting
After putting all the paintings in the right order, Future will get the different symbols in the same positions. Past needs to click on the box on the ground in the same area as the paintings. Now, tell the symbols to Past so he can open the box. The box will open and Past will get coal and then Past needs to use the Coal in the fire pit. After using the coal in the fire pit, Past will get a diagram of three rows with 5 notches in each row above the firing pit. Now, Future needs to rotate to the back side of the device and he’ll see the same pattern that Past has in the diagram. Ask Past what he sees in the diagram to put the notches in the correct position. The correct positions for the notches are the following.
- 2nd Notch on 1st Row
- 4th Notch on 2nd Row
- 1st Notch on 3rd Row
After placing all the notches, a battery will come out of a small container on the right and the device will start to smoke up just like in the Past’s room. Grab the battery and insert it on the right side of the device. A small fan will start spinning and the smoke will start to go out through the fan. There’ll also be a timer showing above the battery, “17: 15”. You need to tell Past the time and Past needs to switch the area to the clock and set the time to “5:15”. The smoke from Past’s room will start to clear. Past needs to go to the Coffin screen and the picture of Albert will break down. Pick up the picture and Past will find a key.
Past needs to put the key in the second drawer to find the face mask. Click on the mirror and put on the face mask to equip the face mask and Past will see that his room turns snowy. Now, go to the double door with glass on them with different shapes and symbols. Future will find a key and a picture of when the fan started spinning so he needs to place the key under the small circle on the right side of the fan of the device. Insert the key and rotate it to open the circular frame and Future will see a shape that looks like an eye. Three different symbols will also come outside around the eye and Past needs to tell the positions of the symbols around the eye shape on the glass door on the bottom right of his screen.
When the symbols match, Future will be able to look through the eye and two shapes will highlight. Past needs to click the shapes and the symbols around the eye will change. Past needs to tell the positions of the symbols again to Future and after placing the symbols in the right positions, more shapes will highlight, and Past needs to click them. The symbols will change again and then they have to repeat the process until the door opens and they both will see each other. Future will see Rose wearing the face mask and Rose will see the device.
Past will find some papers on the right side of the cupboard on which the device is placed. There’ll be positions of switches in those papers. Past needs to tell the positions of the switches to Future. Future needs to rotate to the left side of the device and turn down the first two switches in the first row and turn down the second switch in the second row. A tape will come out and then Future needs to insert the tape into the device. After loading the tape, it’ll show Albert Vanderboom on the coffin. Past needs to go to the coffin screen and click on the coffin to see the name. Future needs to tell the flashing alphabet on the coffin and Past needs to click those alphabets to open the coffin.
Future needs to press the Enter key on the device to go to the next screen and it’ll ask the closest thing to Albert. Past needs to click on the front pocket of Albert’s Coat and get the code. Future needs to enter that code into the machine. After that, the machine will show three different substances: Bone, Flesh, and Blood. Past needs to place the orange triangle that he found in the coffin on the cupboard to unlock it. Past will find the same three symbols of Bone, Flesh, and Blood.
Future needs to go to the back side of the machine and 20 buttons will be showing. Past needs to pull the handle and he’ll find a tool that can be used to open the mouth of Albert. Past needs to place the tool in Albert’s mouth and then Future needs to tell the flashing position of the button and then Past needs to pull that tooth in Albert’s Mouth. They both need to communicate until Past gets the required tooth.
Now, Future needs to confirm the teeth sequence with the Past on the device to progress onto the net substance.
For the Flesh, Past needs to place all the candles and then place the diary in the Flesh section inside the cupboard. The candles can be found in the lantern hanging from the ceiling in different areas. Switch through the areas to find the candles and place them on the stand right next to the coffin. Light all the candles with the match stick and you’ll get a key from one of the candles. Use the key in the first drawer to get the diary. Place the diary in the Flesh section.
A screen will appear on the left side of the device. Future needs to tell the photographs to Past and the Past needs to fill one of the blocks with the pencil according to the emotions written on the right side of the blocks by Albert. The emotions will match with the pictures so both Future and Past need to communicate with each other. The blocks that Past needs to fill are in the following order.
- Bottom Right
- Top Right
- Bottom Left
- Bottom Right
- Top Left
- Top Right
After filling the blocks in the order, Past will get a Scalpel and he needs to go to Albert’s body in a coffin and cut the right ear with the Scalpel. Now, Future needs to press enter on the device and confirm that the person in the Past got the Flesh.
Future needs to select the Blood substance and then rotate to the right side of the device. A block will open and it’ll have 6 buttons to right the code. Past needs to tell the code written on the compartment of blood in the cupboard to Future. Enter the code “3XZY21” and a note will come out that says that there’s a message behind the tree. Past needs to go to the painting area and click on the tree painting to tear it. A new code will reveal. Now, Future needs to enter the code “X2Y13Z” and the new message will say that there’s a message in your own reflection. Past needs to go in front of the mirror and the code will reveal. Future needs to enter “YX31Z2” as a code and the device will show a picture of the room. Future needs to tell the Past that he needs to go to the paintings area and click the box. After that, tear the sheet in the box to find a new code and a spoon. Future needs to enter the code “XZY312” and the device will say that eat the soup and you’ll find a gift. Past needs to pick up the soup bowl from the chair right next to the box and put it on the fire pit. After a few moments, grab it again and pour it in the plate on the table in the drawer area. Eat the soup with the spoon that Past found and he’ll find a green gem.
Place the gem in the blood section in the cupboard to open the compartment and Past will get a bottle and a cotton swab. Past needs to go to Albert’s body and place the cotton swab in the left nostril and push in a couple of times. The blood will come out of the right nostril and use the bottle to collect the blood.
Now, Future needs to confirm the device that the Past got all the substances and the device will ask for the year of Future. There’ll be a mechanism on top of the cupboard and Past needs to place all three substances in the right section of the mechanism. The correct positions of all the substances are the following.
- Blood in Top Left
- Tooth in Bottom Left
- Flesh in the Right
The mechanism will reveal another letter in which the year of Future will be written. Tell the year to Future to enter the device. Enter the year “1984” in the device to proceed. A red tree will generate on the screen of the device and the tape will come out. The device will tell Future to play the game of chess with the Past. Rotate the device to go to its back side and insert the tape. A time will show up as “19: 45” and the Past needs to set the clock to “8: 45”. Everything in the room will start to shake and as past switch through areas of the room, a vase right next to the coffin will break. Search the broken vase and Past will find the key.
Use the key in the third drawer to get two chess pieces. One white and one black. Now, Past needs to go to the table next to the fire pit and place the Chess Pieces on the chess board. Place the White Chess piece in the Bottom Right corner and the Black Chess piece in the Bottom Left corner. On the other side, Future will get a Screwdriver that he needs to use to open the bolts on the left side of the device. After opening the bolts, a chess board will come out with two chess pieces, Black and White.
Future needs to control the White chess piece and the Past needs to control the Black Chess Piece. In Past’s end, the White Chess piece will move on its own in whatever position it moves, Past needs to tell it to Future so he can move the White Chess piece in the same position. When Future does a turn on the White Chess piece, the black Chess piece will move on its own and then Future will have to tell the position of the Black Chess piece to Past so he can move the Black Chess piece to the same position on his chess board. They’ll both have to communicate for several turns and after that, Past will get a coin from the side of his chest board and Future will get Red Floppy Disk.
Future needs to pull out the yellow floppy disk from the device and enter the red floppy disk. A scary man will show up on the screen and the Past has to place both of the coins on the eyes of Albert’s body. His body will turn black and he’ll ask for your help. On the other side, the device will start to beep. All the placements of the symbols, notches, etc will change and you’ll have to put them in order with the help of Past. Future needs to change the notches into the following order.
- 5th Notch on 1st Row
- 2nd Notch on 2nd Row
- 4th Notch on 3rd Row
Change the switches on the back side of the device in the following position.
- 3rd Switch Down in 1st Row
- 3rd Switch Down on 2nd Row
Set the other switches to the up position. Now, change the symbol in the eye according to the wall behind the coffin. Future will find Fuses and the shadow of Albert will stand behind Rose. Insert all three fuses in the device and a small compartment will open on the left side of the device. Pull the switch and a new time will show on the screen above. The time will be “21: 10” and Past needs to turn the clock to “9: 10”. A successful connection will be made and Past will get a Golden Cube from the shadow of Albert.
Place the Golden Cube above on the mechanism above the cupboard and then Future needs to verify all the things that have been happening then Future and Past both need to hold down the up key for ten seconds and then the new chapter will begin.
Terra Nil – How to Create the Forest Biome
There are a number of biomes that players will have to repopulate on each map of the game. Biomes are the main goals of each map and after completing the initial goals, you will unlock the biome goals that you will have to complete. One of the biomes that players will have to create is the Forest which is essential for calling certain animals.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to create the Forest Biome in Terra Nil.
Creating the Forest Biome
The Forest Biome is among the trickiest biomes to create because it can only be populated on Nutritious Ash Tiles. As the map’s soil will be dull and when you clean the soil, it will not contain any Nutrition. However, if you planted some Fynbos Flowers, it will spread some nutrition on the tiles that can be used to turn them into a forest. Now, in order to plant the Fynbos Flowers, you will have to create Fynbos Biome which can only be done by Beehive tool.
Once you have made enough of Fynbos Biome, it will unlock a new tool named “Solar Amplifier”. Solar Amplifier is one of the Tier 2 Buildings and it will cost 30 Leaves to plant. It needs electricity to work so, you will have to place it in the vacancy of the Turbine. Make sure that the Turbine is also near the Fynbos Biome so, you can target it when the Solar Amplifier is installed.
Click the Solar Amplifier and then select the area of the Fynbos Biome to start a fire. After selecting the area where you want to start a fire, it will turn the Fynbos Biome and the near area of the biome into Ash Tiles and you will see certain tiles on which you will be able to place another tool named “Arboretum” Arboretum can be placed on the Husks of the burnt buildings and it will create a forest in its surrounding by using the Nutritious Ash Tiles.
You can place it on all of the burnt buildings in the required area to turn it into the Forest Biome. For the rest of the area, you can use the Irrigator to grow greenery again and start installing the other buildings.
Terra Nil – How to Create Wetlands Biome
The Wetlands Biome is one of the biomes that players will have to repopulate on different maps of the game. As you complete the starting tasks of the map, you will unlock new quests of populating the map with a certain percentage of different biomes.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to create the Wetlands Biome in Terra Nil.
Creating Wetlands Biome
The Wetlands Biome can only be repopulated near the water area and it should be on a low level. Meaning, if there is a tile that is near the water but the surface is higher, then the Wetlands will not be able to populate there. You can only populate the Wetlands Biome on a low level near the Water. In order to start creating the Wetlands Biome, you will be required a tool named “Hydroponium”. Players will have to unlock the Hydroponium tool either by completing the starting tasks on the game or growing greenery on almost all of the map.
When you unlock the tasks for biomes, you will also unlock several tools under Tier 2 Buildings. The starting tools will only show under the Tier 1 Buildings which can be seen by pressing the 1 Key on the Keyboard. In order to view the Tier 2 Buildings, press the 2 Button on the Keyboard. The Tier 2 Buildings are specifically for the biomes and you will unlock Hydroponium under Tier 2 buildings.
The Hydroponium Tool can only be planted on Irrigator which is on a low level near the water. Now, if you have placed some of the Irrigator near the water on a low level, then you can place the Hydroponium on the Irrigator to start turning the Green Land into a Wetlands Biome. It will cover a certain area in the Wetlands Biome. The Hydroponium tool costs 50 Leaves and if you don’t have an Irrigator on a low level near the water, then you will have to plant some irrigator tools near the water on the map. After that, place the required number of Hydroponium tools on Irrigator to complete the Wetlands Biome task.
Terra Nil – How to Create Fynbos Biome
There are different biomes that players will have to restore in each map of the game. As you complete the starting tasks of the map, you will unlock new quests of populating the map with a certain percentage of different biomes. One of the biomes that players will have to repopulate is Fynbos Biome.
In this guide, we’ll tell you how to create Fynbos Biome in Terra Nil.
Creating Fynbos Biome
As from the name of Fynbos Biome, players will have to populate the required area on the map with Fynbos Flowers to create the Fynbos Biome. Fynbos Flowers can only be generated with a tool named “Beehive”. Players will have to unlock the Beehive tool either by completing the starting tasks on the game or growing greenery on almost all of the map.
It will unlock new tools for you and if you have completed the 100% greenery task, you will get the task of populating the map with different biomes. Now, when you unlock the tasks for biomes, you will also unlock several tools under Tier 2 Buildings. The starting tools will only show under the Tier 1 Buildings which can be seen by pressing the 1 Key on the Keyboard. In order to view the Tier 2 Buildings, press the 2 Button on the Keyboard.
You will see a couple of new tools in Tier 2 Buildings and one of them will be the Beehive. Beehive requires a grown tree to place on and it will provide you with Leaves and Fynbos Flowers. Placing a Beehive will cost you 35 Leaves and it will populate the area with Fynbos Flowers around the tree. It will increase the progress bar of Fynbos Biome in your tasks and you need to place a certain number of Beehives in order to complete the Fynbos Biome task.
