Cyberpunk 2077: This is how CDPR wants to win back the trust of players

Cyberpunk 2077 causes debate after the launch. While many players immerse themselves enthusiastically in the world of Night City, others are bitterly disappointed. This is largely due to the many bugs and technical issues that became apparent after the release. Especially on the older consoles, it bumps a lot, but Cyberpunk 2077 often doesn’t run smoothly on the PC either.
In a conference call, CD Projekt has now expressed itself and is self-critical. They pushed too hard for the release and lost the players’ trust. CEO Adam Kicinski outlines the plan to restore that confidence.

Self-criticism and prospect of improvement
At the beginning of the conference, the studio boss took the floor personally and explained that the sales figures look good, but a lot went wrong. Some mistakes have been made.

- After three delays, the executive floor pushed too hard for the release and underestimated how much time Cyberpunk 2077 would have needed.
- In addition, the management did not sufficiently understand the major technical hurdles the developers were facing.
- The last-gen consoles, i.e. PS4 and Xbox One, were not given enough attention. It literally says, “We ignored how much more time it would have taken to improve the game for the old consoles. That was the wrong approach and goes against our corporate philosophy. “
- The internal QA tests had to take place at the developer’s home. Many external testers could not work as usual because of the pandemic restrictions, so their number was lower.
CD Projekt declares that their top priority is to make up for the disappointed players. Adam Kicinski puts it this way:
We are doing everything we can to show the players that we stand by our values. We really hope that our efforts can rebuild the trust we have lost.
These steps should be taken
Patches are primarily intended to improve performance on the old consoles. But the PC shouldn’t be ignored either. Several updates should bring Cyberpunk 2077 out of the ditch. Specifically, the plan is: Another patch bundle is to appear within the next seven days. Two major updates will follow in January and February, along with minor fixes.
Cyberpunk 2077 should be continuously worked on. For the moment, CD Projekt apologizes to the players and promises help with the return of cyberpunk by December 21:
Key questions about the future of Cyberpunk 2077
In the Q&A portion of the conference call, the developers answer additional questions from investors. We picked out a few particularly interesting questions.
Why wasn’t last-gen gameplay shown? Before the release, CD Projekt mainly showed game scenes on the PC; individual videos were also recorded on the new consoles or PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. According to the developers, this is due to the fact that the last-gen versions were worked on until the last minute.
How much will the last-gen versions be improved? Updates should make Cyberpunk 2077 more stable on PS4 and Xbox One. It should be a playable and satisfying experience, but it will never meet the same high standards as NextGen and high-performance PCs.
How do the refunds work? CD Projekt announced on Twitter that returns may also be possible after a long playing time. Hopefully, the players will instead wait for the game to improve.
What will happen to the multiplayer? Due to the unexpectedly difficult launch situation, the release period of the standalone multiplayer remains unclear. CD Projekt wants to deal with this question from January 2021.
What about the Stadia version? With Google Stadia, Cyberpunk 2077 apparently runs much more smoothly than on the older consoles. Therefore, there should only be an update before the Christmas holidays, further patch plans may be announced in early 2021.
