Payday 3: How to Unlock Skills

Skills play a crucial role in Payday 3 which helps with developing your character stats in certain abilities through which you can make a certain type of build for your character. Every heist mission in Payday 3 can be played in various ways and skills are what help you in the success of your heist with your preferred method. Whether you want to complete a heist in stealth or with full gun-blazing action where you can tank hits from the enemies, you must unlock respective skills to your play style and build.

How to Unlock Skills in Payday 3

Payday 3 has 17 different Skill Trees that have 105 skills total combined. Each skill tree tends to provide buffs in a certain play style and every skill tree has a Mastered Node at the end that players can unlock by reaching the end of the skill tree. Unlocking the skills in Payday 3 requires Skill Points but before you get to spend the Skill Points, you must research every Skill Tree. Researching the Skill Tree will not cost any Skill Points and it will show you the type of Skill Tree and what benefits it provides. To research the Skill Tree, you need to go into the Skills section which can be found under the Loadout Tab in the main menu, and select the “Research” option on one of the starting skills or you can hover over the skill and press the R Key to start researching.

Now, researching the Skill Trees can take some time and it will not show you the name of the Skill Tree until it has been researched so, you will be researching the Skill Trees blindly. To ease things up for you, the Skill Trees are in the following order in Payday 3.

The progression of research can be viewed on the right side of the screen while hovering over the skill tree. Once the research has been completed, the name of the skill tree will be revealed and you will be able to spend a skill point in it to unlock the skill. Every skill in Payday 3 costs 1 Skill Point but that does not mean that you can coupe every skill in the game. It is because you will only earn 21 Skill Points in the game even by reaching the max Infamy Level which is 150.

While leveling up your Infamy Level, you will earn 21 Skill Points by Level 100, and after Level 100, you will unlock new cosmetics until Level 150. So, there is no way to unlock every skill in the game and that is why you only have to research and unlock the skills that you think benefit your build. You can mix and match the skills from different Skill Trees to make your build efficient in various scenarios.

You can also unequip or reset your skills completely if you want to try another build for your character in the game so, there is room for you to try different builds in Payday 3 to become an ultimate heister.
